Pastor Arvel E. Givens,
Senior Pastor

The following is an excerpt from Pastor Arvel Givens' book: Total Commitment.

Throughout all generations, from Adam to the present time, God, the Father has been looking for a people who are willing to surrender their lives to His will fully. II Chronicles 16:9 states:

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him.”

The words that seem to stand out in bold print and leap in our spirits are “Whose heart is perfect toward Him.” The only way our hearts can become perfect toward God is to seek Him whole heartedly, and once we find Him, commit ourselves to Him totally.Listen to what He says in Psalm 37:5

“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.”

We must remember when we first come to the Lord, we promise to come to Him with all the affairs of our lives, and to surrender every thought and way unto His will. Commitment, commitment—a total commitment to the will of Jesus; let us say this softly to ourselves. Let it go into the memory of our spirit man. Many times we want Jesus and carnality at the same time. This will not work, because there is Jesus and life, carnality and death. God Almighty places before us life and death, blessing and cursing. We must choose one or the other.

Think about it! One thing we ust remember is that there is no neutral zone. We must be hot or cold; no lukewarmness, which will cause God, the Father to spew us out of His mouth. We must give God our all in all. Pay strict attention as we read Revelation 3:15, 16:

I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.

Listen to this next verse and meditate on it.

So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of My Mouth.

Thus said the Lord God Almighty. Amen.

Soon Jesus is going to call us by name and ask us, "Loveth thou Me more than these--mother, father, sister, brother, jobs, cars, money, popularity, fame, children, etc.?" We will either say, "Yes Lord, Thy will be done," or we will answer with excuses: "Lord, Jesus is not formed in us yet; we are still growing in grace; we have not died to self yet, Lord. Have mercy on us."

God Almighty always has mercy on us. He is known as the God who delights in mercy. Will you bless His Name by giving the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost a total commitment? Listen to what the Father commands us in Deuteronomy 6:5:

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

The Father leaves this up to us. Although the total commitment will always be before us, we are free willed people and the choice is our to make. The Lord will not force us or make us living puppets. Most of all I am thankful because Jesus never stops knocking at the table of our hearts, and asking us to open up our hearts to Him. The day we hear His Voice, we must not harden our hearts to Him. Let us always remember that we are not our own; we are redeemed and bought with the precious Blood of Jesus.
